Committee Changes For 2020
15th July 2020
Just to let you know, and to stop rumours, Peter Brown has resigned his position on the Club Committee! Pete, in a lengthy missive to the Committee and Management explained his decision generally as :
"....during the 49 days of the golfing Coronavirus Lockdown I came to the realisation that there is more to life than golf and all things golfing; having far less Committee work to worry about and with the whole 'new way' of doing things I took the, long considered, decision to step back and let others step up to the 'plate'. I have served the Golf Club for over 6 years, the last 4 1/4 years being at R&PPGC following the merging of the 2 neighbouring Golf Clubs and feel that it is time to take time out for myself and my family and to concentrate more on the Social side of golf with the ocassional competition thrown in!
I have tried to encourage honesty, transparency and accountability during my tenure and I will openly admit to having an issue with a possible conflict of principles as we neared the belated start to the 2020/21 season in July. Just like the 'final straw' adage I felt obligated to act and that action, following the 'lockdown' realisation of how precious our time actually is, resulted in the decision to resign from the Committee.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my tenure and have learned an awful lot about golf and Committee work along the way; often through the continiuous questioning from the Members on all things golfing - if I couldn't provide an on-the-spot answer I would go away and research it and from that action I learned and bettered myself too.
As 2020 Vice Captain I realise that I will also be relinquishing the coveted Captain's role next year but I know that there are other Members equally deserving of that position and with the fact that I am staring straight down the barrel of Veteran golf at the end of 2021 I felt perhaps younger blood could be more beneficial to the Club and its Members moving forward. The fact that our Members thought me worthy of being Club Captain means an awful lot to me just as the honour bestowed by the Committee when I was awarded the title, 'Honorary President' was a cherished moment in my life and for both I am grateful. The knowledge that those AGM votes to appoint me Vice Captain and Captain elect and the Committee award cannot be taken away from me and I am proud to have been recognised for my input......"
Pete has offered to maintain and update the Members Website and Virtual Honours Boards for the foreseeable future so hopefully continuity of up-to-date information etc. will be maintained.
Our outgoing Communications Manager added, "Nothing else has changed folks, I certainly haven't, and I will be just as open to questions/advice at any time if anyone requires help.
I would like to thank all Members, Management and Staff for their kind words and encouragement over my term on the Committee. I wish the Committee(s), current and future, the best of luck as they continue to strive to make this a great Golf Club for our Members.
