Peter Brown 4 Team Challenge - Competition Info & Result
23rd July 2020
What a great day this turned out to be with our Ladies winning the Team event by an impressive margin of 18 points and the best 3 individuals were also Ladies!!!
Well done Ladies and well done Sue Clissett 45 pts, Elaine Barry 44 pts and Jane Brinsford 43 pts. Patrick O'Mahony put in a good show for all the men in the event by finishing 4th with 42 pts.
Just goes to show, the handicapping systemworks pretty well folks. And, Ladies have absolutely nothing to fear when playing agaist the men, they may not hit the ball as far but they can still get the job done - in style!!!
LATE NEWS : Men's Team DQ'd for fielding a player outside the age limits!! Team Captain (& Club Captain) Jamie (Oooops) Newton took full responsibilty for having a Senior player in his Mens Team. As it transpired nothing of importance was actually altered by this DQ; the Ladies won the Team event with a fantastic 435 Points, the Seniors Team were eventual Runners-up with 410 Points, the Veterans came third with 409 Points and the Mens Team DQ meant their 417 Points counted for nothing.
Individual qualifying scores were not affected by the accidental misdemeanour and the prize 'Vouchers' remain as indicated by the placings shown above.
Competition Overview :
Just in case you haven't been made aware, the Peter Brown 4 Team Challenge is a new competition for 2020 which sees 4 Teams, Men (age up to 54), Seniors (age 55 to 69), Veterans (age 70 and over) and Ladies, go up against each other for the Team Trophy. It is a Stableford competition with one member of each Team playing in each teeing group with each Team's teeing order having been decided in advance by the 4 Team Captains, with each Team's teeing orders then being put alongside the other 3 to provide an element of randomness to the teeing groups.
Team selection is by invitation of each Team Captain and Team size is limited to that of the Team with the smallest number of participants.
The Team with the highest aggregate Stableford score will win the Peter Brown 4 Team Challenge Cup.
Although it may sound implausible, this is actually a qualifying event made possible by the fact that each individual player plays independently of the rest of his/her Team and plays off his/her full handicap.
A second trophy, the Peter Brown 4 Team Individual Cup, will be won by the player with the best Stableford score on the day. 'Vouchers' will be won by the 4 best scoring individuals with the financial 'split' of the prize pot being in-line with the Club's norm. Each member of the winning Team will receive a keepsake at the Presentation Evening and similarly the winner and runner-up in the individual challenge will each receive keepsakes. As an added bonus the winning Team members will all have their £3 entry fee reimbursed through the Member Account system.
